I was in Teng-ab from February 9 until Feb 12 of this year, very recently, and I must share that I indeed felt the "magnanimity of the Thou" during my stay there. The magnificence of the mountains, the pervading coolness, the gentle touch of the morning and afternoon sun, and the warmth of the service, nay the care, of the staff and administration of Teng-ab can really lift any soul to transcend the burdens and heaviness that comes with living in this world... I felt more connected with nature, with myself, with Life and with God as I walked around the well-kept gardens and farms of Teng-ab; as I engaged in friendly discourse with the accomodating staff; as I read the bible inside their prayer room ( with a glass wall on the left side, as you face the altar, providing anyone with serenity and a wholistic view of creation as one prays); as I attended the morning mass led by H.E. Bishop Beltran, assisted by Father Tuks (or Tugs? pardon me father:-) in their cozy chapel that has the semblance of a religious art gallery; as I enjoyed the delectable food, prepared the Bontoc way by the hardworking kitchen staff (with most of the vegetable ingredients hand picked from the Teng-ab farm); as I immersed myself in the view from the veranda where one can see the Bontoc mountain range, the chico river and the bustling and yet peaceful Ili (Bontoc village proper); as I went farming and harvested carrots (which became the main ingredient of the sumptuous carrot cake baked by Ate Gladys); and as I stayed in my room in the Layforce, with served as my refuge, my home in Bontoc, with amenities that match that of a hotel. I can say that all the components I needed to make my healing and soul-searching successful were all there in Teng-ab, and I left the retreat center with a renewed spirit, a revived mind and heart, and a rejuvenated body. I highly recommend this healing haven to all those who would like to commune with the mountains as a means to get closer to God. It's a place that you definitely must go to, more so stay, if you ar in the mountain province. It's also just about 15 minutes from the Bontoc museum, where you will find a comprehensive exhibit and narrative about the Igorot culture. Teng-ab then is not just a place conducive for healing, but it's also a strategic place for tourists.:-) I would like to thank Sir Bal, Ate Shirley, Ate Fely, Ate Gladys, Ate Helen, Kuya Ronnie and all the other staff of Teng-ab. Special thanks also to Bishop Beltran for finding time to bless the rosaries I bought from the Teng-ab souvenir shop. I would also like to express my deep gratitude to Johanna of BMI for being my Healing Guide while I was in Teng-ab.... I thank God for the mountains here in the Philippines...for the Mountain province and the Igorot....for Teng-ab! Peace. Gawis Ay Bontoc... Gawis Ay Mountain Provice!:-)
